ABOUT: Exploring Manhattan's Flatiron District
Our small team at SARANKCO: Creative Studio developed a portable, eye-catching, and friendly neighborhood guide that could introduce studio-visitors to all the best eats, landmarks, and local transit that NOMAD has to offer. The bi-fold pamphlet is a physical souvenir to highlight SARANKCO favorites and showcase local businesses. Alongside designer Tae Anne and copywriter Brandon Marcia, I designed an illustrative map, featuring dimensional icons that would represent our chosen locations, public transit, characters, and of course the SARANKCO office on Broadway.
After working with local printers to ensure consistency and quality, the guide was ready to hit the street! We chose a bi-fold print for it's convenience and simple print production, and incorporated the SARANKCO visual identity in palette, type treatment, and brand motifs.
To represent the area of Broadway that is closed off from traffic and also to add humor and levity to the map, I included cafe-enjoying rats. In similar New-York-fashion, all Citi Bike locations are represented by bike-riding pigeons.
A beloved design that didn't survive to the final round:
The Illustration Quilt! This pattern incorporates architecture and food from the neighborhood, including the fountain in Madison Square Park, the Flatiron building, and the entrance to the St. James Building which previously housed Sarankco: Creative Studio.
